Hossegor in May: that scent of maritime pine drifting everywhere, terraces slowly reopening and the salty air reminding you why you chose to live here year-round, or why you come back every summer. The town doesn't have the density of terrace cafés of a big city, but it has a handful of spots — coworking spaces, hotels and coffee shops — where you can set up your laptop in the open air without spending a fortune. Tourist pressure changes everything between June and September: you need to know where to aim and at what time.

We toured the terraces where you can genuinely work in Hossegor — not just have a drink. Here's our selection of 5 spots.

HEJMO Hostel

Soorts-Hossegor, halfway between the beach and the lake. HEJMO brings together a unique mix: garden terrace, heated pool and rooftop, all attached to a coliving space with free dedicated-fibre coworking. You can genuinely work outside for several hours — the Wi-Fi holds up even by the pool. It's become the go-to spot for digital nomads passing through Hossegor.

Fast Wi-Fi, power outlets on the coworking side, food and bar on site with El Nido, international vibe. Open all year round, making it the most reliable option out of season. The rooftop is the spot to aim for at the end of the day to finish your tasks in sunset mode.

Our favourite for working on a terrace in Hossegor on proper long sessions, without having to pack up at 6pm.

Wojo Spot Jo&Joe Hossegor

458 Avenue de Gaujacq, a short walk from the beach. Wojo Spot occupies part of the Jo&Joe hostel and offers a large garden-side terrace, ideal for morning sessions and late afternoons when the sun isn't beating down as hard. The Wi-Fi holds up well outside, and the bar is within reach if you want a coffee or a beer at the end of the day.

Professional Wi-Fi, power outlets on the indoor side, food on site, lively atmosphere. Footfall is constant, so forget deep focus in the height of July. Listed by Wojo in its remote work holiday guide and by the tourist office. The terrace is the main draw here; the interior is busier.

The smart choice for working outside in a relaxed atmosphere 5 minutes from the main beach.

Volt Café Brûlerie

147 Avenue des Charpentiers, Parc d'Activité Pédebert. Volt has a small terrace that catches the morning light well, perfect for a start-of-day session: specialty coffee plus emails. The noise from the business park is more present than in the town centre, but the vibe stays calm and the coffee quality changes everything.

Wi-Fi, food, well-kept terrace. Recommended by Wicofi in its Wi-Fi café directory for remote work. Open during the day Monday to Saturday. Aim for the 9am to 11am slot to have the terrace to yourself — after that it starts filling up with neighbourhood regulars.

The spot for productive mornings when you want a really good coffee and some light without going all the way to the beach.

Villa Seren

1111 Avenue du Touring Club, lake view. Villa Seren plays in a different league: it's the 4-star lakeside hotel that offers a coworking package at €30 a day including professional Wi-Fi, lounges and lunch. The lakeside terrace is the central draw, especially at the end of the day when the light becomes extraordinary.

Professional Wi-Fi, total quiet, premium food and coffee included. Recommended by the Amélie Nollet blog for freelances looking for an exceptional setting. It's not an everyday option, but for a client day, an important brainstorm or simply treating yourself to a one-off luxury break, it's unbeatable.

The premium choice for a terrace day with lake views, when you want a setting that really changes things.

TANDEM Kids Club & Coworking

69 Avenue des Sabotiers, Zone Pédebert. Tandem offers a garden terrace connected to the coworking space, perfect for in-between sessions when you need some air but don't want to leave your spot. The format is different: it's a coworking space with integrated childcare from 15 months to 10 years, so the user profile is targeted.

Wi-Fi, power outlets, quiet, garden terrace, equipped kitchenette. The terrace is small but pleasant and lets you break up your day by alternating between inside and outside. Mentioned by Passion Télétravail and avril.eleven in their family coworking selections. Open on weekdays.

The smart terrace option for freelance parents who want a flexible remote work setup in season.

How to work well on a terrace in Hossegor

Three useful rules on the Atlantic coast:

  • The ocean wind can be treacherous in the afternoon. From 2pm on summer days, have something to weigh down your papers and a light windbreaker for sessions near the lake or beach.
  • Terraces fill up fast in July and August. Aim for mornings (before 11am) or the 2pm to 4pm slot to get a spot and work in peace.
  • Shade is scarce. In the Pédebert area many terraces face full south with no cover. Go for HEJMO or Villa Seren if you want shade and need to work for several hours without getting burnt.

In summary

Hossegor doesn't have the density of laptop-friendly terraces you'd find in a big city, but its 5 real terrace spots cover the main uses: coliving lifestyle (HEJMO), lively bar terrace (Wojo), morning coffee shop (Volt), premium lake-view terrace (Villa Seren), family coworking terrace (Tandem). In season, it's better to aim for non-peak hours — avoid noon and late afternoon — if you actually want to make progress on your work.
