Data collected

Deskover collects the minimum data needed to operate the service:

  • Contributions (ratings): the ratings you give to places (WiFi, power outlets, quiet, vibe) are recorded with an anonymous identifier generated locally in your browser. This identifier is used solely to prevent duplicate votes — it is not linked to any personal data. No account needed.
  • Geolocation: used only to show places near you and measure WiFi when you're on-site. Never sent to our server, never stored. You can decline.
  • Contact messages: your first name, email, subject (optional) and message are stored so we can reply to you.
  • Place suggestions: the places you submit (name, address, city, category, coordinates) are recorded for moderation. The same local identifier as for ratings is attached, solely to prevent abuse.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, time spent, device). It is off by default: nothing is sent until you accept via the banner at the bottom of the page. You can decline, and change your mind at any time by clearing the site data in your browser.

Data stored in your browser

We use your browser's local storage (localStorage) for two things:

  • The anonymous contribution identifier (to prevent duplicate votes)
  • Your analytics preference (so we don't ask again on every visit)

This data never leaves your browser — we don't read it server-side.

What we don't do

  • No advertising cookies
  • No cross-site tracking
  • No data resale
  • No mandatory user account
  • No individual profiling

Data hosting

Data is hosted by Supabase (EU-West region, Paris). Photos are stored on Supabase Storage (same region). The site is served by Vercel.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you can request access, correction or deletion of your data by writing to contact@deskover.fr or via the contact.

Retention

  • Contributions: kept indefinitely (anonymous)
  • Contact messages: deleted after handling (max 12 months)
  • Place suggestions: kept as long as the place remains published
  • Google Analytics data: 14 months (Google retention period)
  • Geolocation: never stored
