The Promenade des Anglais at 8 in the morning, the light catching the blue of the sea, and you thinking there are probably worse places to open your laptop. In Nice, terrace season lasts almost all year, and the competition among good outdoor spots to work is real: you need to sort through the purely scenic terraces and the genuinely functional ones.
We toured the Vieux-Nice, Carré d'Or, Gambetta and even the areas around the airport to find the terraces where you can truly work: not just a chair facing the sea, but a setting where the Wi-Fi holds up, power outlets exist, and the team accepts laptops without debate. Here are seven addresses we keep in our Nice favourites.
Hug Cafe Nice
Rue de Suisse, Hug Cafe is a small speciality café with free Wi-Fi and outdoor seating, ideal in summer. It's less equipped than an XL coffee shop, but the quality-to-location ratio is unbeatable and the coffee delivers.
Wi-Fi available, decent terrace, laptop welcome, simple and good food. Google rating of 4.6 from nearly 1,300 reviews. The modest size means you'll need to arrive early if you want a seat.
Worth trying for a short morning session with a coffee that's worth the detour.
Le Méridien
On the Promenade des Anglais, Le Méridien opens its spacious lobby to the public with serene calm and a sea view as a bonus. It's the textbook hotel lobby you can use for work, with a terrace that looks out over the Baie des Anges.
Decent Wi-Fi, hushed atmosphere, laptop perfectly welcome. Google rating of 4.2 from over 4,000 reviews. You don't need to be staying here to use the lobby and order a coffee.
Our favourite for important calls where you want silence and a setting that looks good in your Zoom background.
Flex-O Nice Aéroport
On the Promenade des Anglais heading towards the airport, Flex-O offers 300 m² of coworking and a private 350 m² terrace with a panoramic sea view. It's the most generous terrace in this selection, and the equipment is on par.
Pro Wi-Fi, guaranteed quiet, laptop obviously welcome. Google rating of 4.8 from 70 reviews. More out of the way, but the sea-view terrace bonus makes the trip worthwhile on a nice day.
The spot for a day of work with a view that turns your coffee breaks into real pauses.
Nice JOYA Lifestore
Place du Pin, JOYA Lifestore combines a concept store and a welcoming bar-restaurant, with a private terrace for working in peace or a bright interior depending on the time of day.
Wi-Fi available, power outlets, refined atmosphere, interesting food. Google rating of 4.5 from 256 reviews. The shopping-work-food mix is unusual but works well if you like multi-purpose spaces.
A great option for sessions where you want to break away from the classic coffee shop routine.
Cosy Cafe
Boulevard Gambetta, Cosy Cafe is a small café near place Garibaldi, perfect for peaceful conversations or quiet work. The terrace is modest but well-positioned, and the interior lives up to its name.
Decent Wi-Fi, affordable food, relaxed atmosphere. Google rating of 4.5 from over 2,000 reviews — a sign of genuine local success. Not the spot for five-hour sessions, but ideal for two focused hours.
The neighbourhood café where you enjoy settling in for short morning sessions.
MyTeamwork.co
Rue du Maréchal Joffre, MyTeamwork.co is a coworking space with a 70 m² terrace, a bar, a pool table, and beach access a 10-minute walk away. It's the full package for nomads who want to enjoy Nice without rebuilding their setup every day.
Pro Wi-Fi, power outlets everywhere, well-kept terrace, food and a relaxed atmosphere. Google rating of 5 from 8 reviews. Still new but already adopted by passing digital nomads.
The spot for sessions where you want to alternate between two hours of work and a break with your feet in the sand.
How to work well on a terrace in Nice
A few useful rules on the coast:
- The mistral can send everything flying. If you're working outdoors, put a weight on your papers and check your keyboard is stable.
- Sea-facing terraces have little shade. At midday, your screen is done for. Target a covered terrace or a hotel lobby during the hottest hours.
- Salt air corrodes USB ports. Avoid very long sessions facing the sea if your laptop is older.
