Lille in May — that moment when the city changes its face: terraces bring their tables out onto the cobblestones, Vieux-Lille starts living outdoors, and the coworking spaces of Euratech compete with their rooftops. The terrace season is shorter here than in Toulouse or Montpellier, but when it arrives, the city takes it seriously.
We toured Vieux-Lille, lingered around Rihour and explored Euratech to find the terraces worth the trip for working. Here are six addresses to keep in your Lille favourites for the season.
Coffee Makers
Rue Pierre Mauroy, Coffee Makers is a small café with a terrace offering a friendly atmosphere that's just right for working with your laptop. Not the most technically equipped, but the vibe genuinely does half the work.
Laptops welcome, decent food, real neighbourhood feel. Google rating 4.6 from nearly 1,500 reviews. Better for short sessions than full days.
A good spot for starting a morning with a coffee that stands out.
We Are Ara
Also on rue Pierre Mauroy, We Are Ara strikes the balance between lively neighbourhood café and quiet place to work, with sweet and savoury options. A classic for morning and early afternoon sessions.
Comfortably quiet, good food, decent terrace. Google rating 4.4 from over 1,700 reviews. The team manages the lunch rush well to protect the workers.
The spot for morning sessions with a brunch that delivers.
Hiptown Euratech
Allée Clémentine Deman, Hiptown Euratech is a 2,000 m² ultra-bright coworking space at the heart of Euratechnologies, with an exclusive terrace, equipped meeting rooms, and a kitchen area for eating. Premium format, but the experience holds up.
Pro Wi-Fi, power outlets, large tables, food, well-crafted atmosphere. Google rating 5 from 130 reviews. The terrace is a real asset in season, and the equipment-to-comfort ratio is genuinely good.
Your go-to spot for weeks when you want premium coworking comfort in the tech district.
Notting Hill
Place du Théâtre, Notting Hill is a café chain with several locations in Lille, some with nice terraces. Less specialised than a dedicated coffee shop, but the central location can be a real asset.
Google rating 3.9 from over 1,700 reviews. Better suited for short sessions than full days.
A good spot for squeezing in an hour of work between appointments in the city centre.
Baya Lille
Place Rihour, Baya Lille is a city-centre coworking space with full infrastructure: bright, ergonomic spaces, phone booths, meeting rooms, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a fitted terrace. For the convenience of a coworking space right in the heart of the city.
Pro Wi-Fi, power outlets, quiet, large tables, food, atmosphere. Google rating 5 from 33 reviews. The format requires commitment, but the central location justifies it for regular sessions.
Our favourite for freelancers who want a coworking space in the city centre with a real outdoor area.
Hiptown Grand'Place
Rue Nationale, Hiptown Grand'Place is a premium space that blends modern coworking codes with the building's original features: parquet floors, brick, exposed beams, and a panoramic rooftop as a bonus. The visual statement is strong.
Pro Wi-Fi, power outlets, large tables, genuinely great atmosphere. Google rating 4.8 from 9 reviews. The rooftop makes all the difference in season.
The spot for sessions where you want a setting as impressive as the equipment.
How to work well on a terrace in Lille
Three rules specific to the North:
- Lille weather is unpredictable. A May shower is almost guaranteed. Prioritise covered terraces or ones with easy access back inside.
- The northern wind can blow hard. If you're working on a terrace, have something to weigh your papers down, and don't underestimate the chill in the morning and evening.
- The terrace season is short. Make the most of May-June and September, which are the most stable months. July-August is more unpredictable.
