The 14th in May has that almost provincial calm spreading around the parc Montsouris, the pedestrian streets of Pernety catching the sun from mid-morning, and that density of small cafés that have quietly welcomed workers without making a big deal of it. It's the Parisian arrondissement you discover late but always want to return to.
We've toured Pernety, wandered around the parc Montsouris, and explored the streets around the avenue du Maine to find the really good terraces. Here are four addresses to save in your 14th favourites.
Bob Hôtel
Rue Pernety. Bob Hôtel is a calm, elegant coworking space set inside a four-star hotel, with a shaded terrace and hammam access included. The format is unusual and the experience delivers for sessions when you want accessible luxury.
Guaranteed quiet, refined atmosphere, shaded terrace. Google rating of 4.5 from over 740 reviews. A commitment-style format but the experience is genuinely singular.
The go-to spot for sessions when you want a high-end setting after a stressful day.
French Coffee Shop
Avenue du Maine. French Coffee Shop offers a warm, friendly atmosphere for working, with Wi-Fi, attentive service, and neighbourhood vibes. A classic format, but well executed.
Wi-Fi in place, food, refined atmosphere, laptops welcome, small terrace. Google rating of 4.9 from 82 reviews. The quality-comfort-price ratio is genuinely strong for the neighbourhood.
Our favourite on the avenue du Maine for sessions of a few hours.
Café Le Rhodia — Musée Bourdelle
Rue Antoine Bourdelle (on the border with the 15th). Café Le Rhodia is a café inside the Musée Bourdelle with a terrace set among statues, accessible without needing to buy a museum ticket. The setting is quite remarkable, and it's a fairly well-kept secret.
Food, atmosphere, accessible prices. Google rating of 4.6 from over 600 reviews. The terrace among the statues really does make the difference.
Our secret favourite for sessions when you want an absolutely unique Parisian setting.
Morning Montsouris
Impasse Reille. Morning Montsouris is a 1,300 m² coworking space spread over three floors with private offices, open-plan areas, meeting rooms, a rooftop terrace with a view of the parc Montsouris, and a green environment. The rooftop is probably the most beautiful coworking terrace in the arrondissement.
Professional Wi-Fi, power outlets, quiet, large tables, food, atmosphere. Google rating of 4.6 from 12 reviews. The rooftop completely changes the experience in season.
The go-to for freelancers who want a premium coworking space with a park view.
How to work well on a terrace in the 14th
Three useful rules for the neighbourhood:
- The 14th is quiet — that's its strength. You can work on a terrace without dealing with the noise of a busy avenue. Make the most of it.
- Museum terraces are underrated. Several cultural venues in the neighbourhood have café terraces accessible without a ticket. Check before heading out.
- The parc Montsouris draws crowds at weekends. During the week, the surroundings are calm. At weekends, plan to move away from the main entrances.
