Orléans in May — the gentle Loire quality of the mornings, the city-centre terraces putting their tables out as soon as the sun comes through, the light on the Loire turning coffee breaks into real pauses. The city has quietly built a solid café-coworking scene, and several addresses genuinely deliver on their promise for working outdoors.

We've toured the centre, explored Place du Châtelet and looked along the Loire to find the terraces worth visiting. Here are five addresses to keep in your Orléans favourites.

French Coffee Shop

Rue Louis Roguet, French Coffee Shop is a coffee shop with a pleasant Wi-Fi connection, cosy atmosphere and a wide food selection. The format is unsurprising but well executed, and the team welcomes laptops without debate.

Wi-Fi available, food, laptops welcome, quiet, neat atmosphere, small terrace. Google rating of 4.6 on over 1,200 reviews. A go-to for freelancers and students in the city centre.

Our favourite for a few hours' work with a coffee that holds up.

La Maison du Coworking

Rue Croix de Malte, La Maison du Coworking is a welcoming space seven minutes from the station, with private and shared desks, a peaceful terrace and no-commitment memberships. The flexible approach is rare and precious for passing freelancers.

Wi-Fi available, power outlets, large tables, food, vibe, accessible pricing. Google rating of 4.6 on 21 reviews. The terrace is a game changer in season.

The go-to spot for freelancers who want a flexible coworking space without an annual commitment.

Le Lab'O Village By CA

Avenue du Champ de Mars, Le Lab'O is a vast 14,000 m² innovation hub with fibre optic, bright open spaces and a generous terrace. The format is more ambitious than the other addresses, and the professional environment is genuinely stimulating.

Professional Wi-Fi, power outlets, large tables, laptops obviously welcome, dynamic atmosphere. Google rating of 4.4 on nearly 300 reviews. The terrace is a real bonus.

The spot for freelancers who want to be immersed in an entrepreneurial ecosystem without giving up comfort.

Solo Palma Coffee House

Place du Châtelet, Solo Palma Coffee House is a small café with a large covered terrace, a calm but lively atmosphere, and organic drinks and treats. An intimate but effective format.

Quiet setting, organic food, vibe, covered terrace. Google rating of 4.3 on 235 reviews. The covered terrace is an asset in the shoulder season.

A good spot for short sessions with an ethically minded café.

Garden Ice Café — Place de Loire

Place de la Loire, Garden Ice Café is a bright, air-conditioned café with a magnificent view over the Loire, a subdued atmosphere and cool drinks. A classic format, but the location makes it worth the trip.

Wi-Fi available, quiet, refined atmosphere, terrace with Loire view. Google rating of 4.2 on over 3,200 reviews. The air conditioning is a bonus on scorching days.

Our favourite for sessions where you want the Loire view and a cool setting.

How to work well from a terrace in Orléans

Three useful rules in this city:

  • Place de Loire terraces heat up in the afternoon. Beautiful in the morning, harder to bear in the height of summer. Go for an air-conditioned café during the hot hours.
  • The river wind can catch you off guard. Bring something to weigh down your papers if you're working on the waterfront.
  • The pedestrian centre is quiet on weekdays. That's one of Orléans' advantages: the city-centre terraces stay manageable even in the heart of the city.
