Nîmes is the Roman city that lives by the rhythm of the sun, between its millennia-old arenas, the Jardins de la Fontaine and the shaded alleyways of the Écusson. The mistral blows, the light is strong, and café terraces never really empty out. If you work remotely or freelance here, you get a quality of life that many people envy. The range of places to work outside the home is taking shape: a few solid coworking spaces, cafés that welcome laptops without hesitation, and community spaces with genuine pleasant surprises. Less extensive than neighbouring Montpellier, but with some gems worth seeking out.

We explored Nîmes to find the spots where you can genuinely settle in, get connected and get your to-do list done. Here is our selection of 9 addresses, from professional coworking space to café where you feel at home with your laptop.

Le Spot

Rue de l'Enclos Rey, in a quiet neighbourhood close to the centre. Le Spot lives up to its name: it's an emblematic place in Nîmes that blends coworking and an artistic atmosphere. The walls host exhibitions, the energy is creative, and you can tell the place was designed for people who make things. Large tables, Wi-Fi, power outlets, and an atmosphere that invites concentration without being stifling. The setting has character without overdoing it, with décor that shifts with the cultural events.

On the practical side, it's well equipped for working. Watch out for the hours: open Thursday to Saturday only, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. That's the weak point. If you need a spot for Monday mornings, this isn't it. But for productive end-of-week sessions in an inspiring setting, it's great.

The spot (literally) for creatives who want to work in a gallery-and-studio atmosphere.

Les Halles Solanid

Rue des Halles, in the heart of the historic centre. Les Halles de Nîmes is an institution: a magnificent covered market where locals have always come to do their shopping. But what not everyone knows is that the space also includes quieter corners, perfect for setting up with your laptop for a few hours. The terrace under the stone arches is superb, there's a cosy, more secluded nook, and even a small library. The atmosphere is lively without being overwhelming, driven by the ballet of traders and market regulars.

Wi-Fi available, power outlets accessible, and you can snack on the city's finest fresh produce without leaving your seat. Open every day from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (1:30 p.m. on Sundays). The window is short, but for a productive morning session with a good coffee and a croissant, it's brilliant.

The spot for early risers who want to work in an authentic setting, surrounded by market flavours.

Cap Cowork

Avenue Claude Baillet, on the south side of the city, in the Costières district. Cap Cowork is a brand new coworking space with 26 workstations, private offices, a well-equipped meeting room, and a full kitchen for long days. The venue is bright, the volumes are generous, and everything breathes newness and functionality. The furniture is comfortable, the layout is fluid, and the quiet is there. It's the kind of place where you arrive, sit down, and are productive within five minutes.

Fast Wi-Fi, power outlets everywhere, large tables, and everything you need to put in hours without friction. Open Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The extended hours are a real plus, especially Saturday opening, which is not common in Nîmes coworking spaces.

Our favourite for intensive working days when you need all the comfort of a proper professional space.

Columbus Café

Boulevard Amiral Courbet, right in the centre. This Columbus Café has an advantage the others don't: it's the largest in France. The architecture is magnificent, with beautiful high ceilings, custom-made furniture, and an interior volume that gives you room to breathe. Unlike many chains where tables are crammed together and the vibe is a little industrial, this one has space, light and a real personality. You don't feel squeezed between two pushchairs and a group of teenagers.

Wi-Fi available, power outlets accessible, and a menu of drinks and snacks that keeps you going all day. Open 7 days a week, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays (8 a.m. on Saturdays, 9 a.m. on Sundays). It's reliable and consistent — you know what you'll find there. No surprises, but no bad ones either.

The safe bet when you want somewhere open early, 7 days a week, with space and Wi-Fi.

Bali Bowls

Rue Guizot, still in the Écusson. Bali Bowls is an Indonesian-inspired concept that stands out from the rest of the city. The décor is transporting, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the coffee is good. The volumes are pleasant, the light comes in well, and the place has that permanent holiday feel that relaxes you without harming your concentration. You order a bowl, open your laptop, and time passes without you noticing.

Wi-Fi available, quiet atmosphere, and a varied menu that lets you have lunch on site. Open every day, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (12 p.m. on Sundays). The late closing is a plus if you like working in the late afternoon or early evening. One downside: opening at 11 a.m. cuts out mornings.

The change-of-scenery spot for working in the afternoon and carrying on into dinner without moving.

La Verrière

Rue Porte d'Alès, near la Coupole. La Verrière is a bright, welcoming coworking space with large bay windows that flood the workstations with natural light. The name is no coincidence: the entire space plays on transparency and openness. The tables are large, quiet is maintained, and the atmosphere supports concentration without isolating you. It's a human-sized space where you see the same faces week after week.

Reliable Wi-Fi, power outlets everywhere, large tables. Open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. A discreet but effective coworking space for those looking for a bright, quiet weekday setting.

For those who love natural light and open spaces.

Le café social et solidaire d'Anaïs

Rue Nationale, in the centre. An associative café with soul. The welcome is warm, the atmosphere is friendly, and the prices are gentle. It's the kind of place where the human connection matters as much as the Wi-Fi. The setting is simple but warm, the people are smiling, and you can settle in for a few hours of work in an atmosphere that does you good. No commercial pressure here: you come, you consume at your own pace, and you work in peace.

Wi-Fi available, quiet, and prices accessible to all. Open Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed weekends and Mondays. The window is limited, but for a mid-week work session, it's a choice that makes sense, especially if you like places driven by values.

The café that does as much good for your mood as for your productivity.

La Pause

Chemin la Croix de Vauvert, on the southern outskirts. La Pause is a café-library with relaxation lounges and open workspaces. Vintage armchairs, shelves full of books, and an atmosphere that makes you want to sink into a chair with your laptop and not move. The place is comfortable in the real sense of the word: not showy, but welcoming and restful. The space is large enough that you're not stepping on each other.

Wi-Fi, quiet atmosphere, and food and drinks available. Open every day, 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (5 p.m. on Sundays). The late closing makes it one of the rare spots in Nîmes where you can work in the evening. If you're the productive night-owl type, this is your hideout.

The evening haunt for late work sessions, in a café-library atmosphere.

Nîmes is a city where nomadic work moves at a different pace. Less frenetic than the big cities, more sunshine and a gentler way of life. The coworking spaces are there for those who need structure, and Nîmes cafés are increasingly welcoming to workers with laptops. The fabric is still developing, but the addresses that exist are genuine and well run.
