Strasbourg is a city that blends Alsatian charm with European dynamism. Between the Grande Île listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Neustadt neighbourhood with its wide avenues and Germanic buildings, and Cronenbourg quietly reinventing itself, the city offers a unique working environment in France. Freelancers based near Place de la République, remote workers enjoying the Alsatian quality of life, students from the EM or the University of Strasbourg looking for a quiet corner — everyone finds their place here.
What's pleasant about Strasbourg is this blend of influences. The cafés have something slightly Germanic about them — you sit down, take your time, and nobody rushes you. The tram network is efficient, the city centre is compact, and spots designed for remote work are growing in number. We've toured the neighbourhoods, identified the good spots and tested the connections. Here is our selection of 10 places to set up your laptop in Strasbourg.
Coworking Anticafé
Rue de la Division Leclerc, a few minutes from the station. Strasbourg's Anticafé applies the concept that has proven itself elsewhere: you pay by the time spent, and drinks, snacks and equipment are included. Wi-Fi, power outlets, large tables, printers, meeting rooms — it's all there. The atmosphere is quiet and studious, and you can stay for hours without feeling guilty about how many coffees you've ordered.
Recommended by Pokaa, EM Strasbourg, Passion Télétravail and Chacun Son Café in their respective selections of the best places to work in Strasbourg. Open every day from 9am to 8pm (10am on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays). It's one of the most-cited spots in the city for remote work, and it's easy to understand why: the model is clever, the equipment is complete, and the atmosphere is perfect for working.
Our favourite for full days without any hassle — you pay for your time and help yourself.
Les Compotes Strasbourg
Rue de Sélestat, in the station neighbourhood. Les Compotes is a hybrid space that blends specialty coffee and coworking in a dynamic atmosphere. High-speed Wi-Fi, plenty of power outlets, large tables, and even concierge services to make your life easier. The coffee is good, the atmosphere is lively without being noisy, and the place attracts a crowd of remote workers that gives it a productive energy.
Recommended by Passion Télétravail, L'Alsace and Fabrice Dubesset in their guides to the best cafés to work in Strasbourg. Hours vary by day: open from 8:30am most days, until 6pm (8pm on Wednesdays). Closed Sundays. This is a place that's gaining traction in Strasbourg — well equipped, well located, and with an atmosphere that makes you want to come back.
The spot for those who want a real specialty coffee with coworking-level equipment.
Oh My Goodness
Rue de la 1ère Armée, in the centre. Oh My Goodness is an associative coffee shop with warm décor and excellent coffee. The atmosphere is quiet and studious, and you'll mostly find students and freelancers who come with their laptops. The lunch offer is affordable, which means you can stay all day without blowing your budget.
Wi-Fi available, and the atmosphere clearly lends itself to work. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 8am (2pm on Mondays), until 6:30pm. Closed Sundays. The associative character gives the place a human dimension — you can tell it's run by people who love what they do.
Perfect for students and freelancers who want a cheap café with a good working atmosphere.
Omnino
Rue des Drapiers, in the historic centre. Omnino is a peaceful and comfortable coffee shop with warm wooden décor, soft background music and a bright atmosphere that helps you concentrate. The place is small but well laid out, and the subdued atmosphere is ideal for work sessions that require focus. The coffee served is excellent — it's an Alsatian micro-roastery that roasts its own beans.
Wi-Fi available, and the quiet is guaranteed. Recommended by EM Strasbourg in its top 3 coffee shops for studying. Open Tuesday to Friday from noon to 6:30pm, Saturday from 10am to 7pm. Closed Sundays and Mondays. The hours are a little limited, but when it's open, it's one of the most peaceful spots in Strasbourg for working.
The spot for afternoon focus sessions in a quiet, wood-lined setting.
La Taverne française
Avenue de la Marseillaise, in the Neustadt neighbourhood. La Taverne française is a Strasbourg institution — one of those bars that has always been there and has kept its soul. The atmosphere has something from another era: regulars, students, artists who drop by to read or work. Wi-Fi is available, the atmosphere is quiet during the day, and the setting has character.
Recommended by Pokaa in its ranking of the best places to work in Strasbourg. Open Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 1:30am, Friday until 3am, Saturday from 2pm to 3am. Closed Sundays. If you like historically rich venues and can handle the buzz of a lively café, this is a unique experience.
A spot with character for those who like working in a place with a story.
Snack Michel
Avenue de la Marseillaise, right next to La Taverne française. Snack Michel is a Strasbourg institution open continuously, in the style of a Parisian brasserie, where dozens of people come to read or work. The space is large, the tables varied, and the atmosphere has that constant background hum that helps some people concentrate. Wi-Fi is available, and the setting is quiet without being silent.
Recommended by Pokaa in the same selection. Open Tuesday to Friday from 6:30am (until 9pm, 10:30pm on Fridays), Saturday from 6:30am to 7pm. Closed Sundays and Mondays. The very early opening is a real plus if you're the kind of person who attacks the day before everyone else.
The bargain for very early risers — a coffee from 6:30am in a brasserie atmosphere.
Les Savons d'Hélène
Rue Sainte-Hélène, in the centre. Les Savons d'Hélène is a welcoming bar with a magnificent glass roof that makes all the difference. Natural light floods the space, and the atmosphere is quiet during the day — perfect for working without stress. In summer, the terrace takes over. Wi-Fi is available, the food offer is decent, and the setting is simply beautiful.
Open every day from 11:30am to 12:30am. The wide opening hours are a real asset — you can come at lunch and stay into the evening. It's more of a transitional spot than a deep work venue (the atmosphere changes in the evening), but for afternoon work sessions in a beautiful setting, it's an excellent choice.
The spot for working under the glass roof and enjoying the natural light.
Madame Julia
Rue de la 1ère Armée, in the centre. Madame Julia is a rustic-modern café serving excellent pastries and tasty bowls. The atmosphere is warm, the décor is carefully designed, and the setting lends itself to relaxation and light study. It's a place more suited to short sessions and indulgent breaks than intensive long-duration work.
Open every day from 9am to 6pm. It's reliable, well located, and the quality of the menu more than compensates for the less work-focused orientation. If you need a gourmet break between work sessions, this is the place to go.
A gourmet café for breaks between work sessions.
BNU - Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire
Place de la République, in the Neustadt. The BNU is the second largest library in France, and the environment is simply magnificent. The building is majestic, the reading rooms are vast and silent, and Wi-Fi access is free. If you need absolute silence to concentrate, this is probably the best place in Strasbourg.
Recommended by Pokaa in its selection. Open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 10pm, and Sunday from 1pm to 10pm. The opening hours are impressive — you can come in the evening and work until 10pm, including on Sundays. It's free, silent and magnificent. The only downside: no coffee or food inside, of course.
For deep work sessions in silence, in one of Strasbourg's most beautiful buildings.
