The 18th is the arrondissement of a thousand faces. Between the tourist lanes of Montmartre climbing towards the Sacré-Coeur, the Goutte d'Or reinventing itself every season, the Abbesses with their terraces where time seems to stand still, and the Jules Joffrin-Marcadet neighbourhood living at its residents' pace, you move from one atmosphere to another in just a few streets. And each of these neighbourhoods has its own spots for getting work done.

Working in the 18th means accepting a bit of noise, a bit of life, and a lot of character. The arrondissement isn't the most obvious for remote work — you're far from the business districts — but that's precisely what gives it its charm. The places that welcome laptops here have a strong personality, from engaged community spaces to cafés from sharp-eyed roasters. We've walked the streets, from boulevard Ornano to rue Lepic, to unearth the 10 best addresses.

La Recyclerie

Boulevard Ornano, in a former Petite Ceinture station, at the porte de Clignancourt. La Recyclerie is an eco-responsible community space that has transformed the disused platforms into an urban vegetable garden and the old station into a café-canteen. The place is vast, with large wooden tables, a terrace overlooking the old rails, and an atmosphere that blends ecological commitment with a welcoming vibe. Products are local and sustainable, prices remain reasonable.

For work, Wi-Fi is available, power outlets are accessible, and the large tables let you work comfortably. The atmosphere is lively without being overwhelming — on weekday mornings, it's quiet enough to concentrate. Recommended by Vivre Paris, Chacun Son Café, Hub-Grade and Les Alfredines among the best workspaces in Paris. Open every day from 11am (noon on Mondays), with late hours at the end of the week.

Our favourite for working in a unique setting, between urban vegetable garden and abandoned rails.

Café Lomi

Rue Marcadet, in the la Chapelle neighbourhood. Café Lomi is a reference point for Parisian roasting. The coffee is prepared next to the roasting space, and the smell hanging in the room sets the tone. The interior is warm, with large tables for settling in and working. The atmosphere is quiet and studious — the kind of place where you naturally sit down with a laptop.

Solid Wi-Fi, power outlets available, and one of the best coffees in Paris — the perfect combo for productive mornings. Recommended by Pachamama, iPaidThat, Direct Emploi and Come to Paris. Open weekdays 8am to 5pm and Saturday 9:30am to 6pm, closed Sunday. It's a weekday spot, ideal for classic working days.

The obvious choice if you want an exceptional coffee and a calm setting to concentrate.

La Régulière

Rue Myrha, in the Goutte d'Or. La Régulière is a hybrid space combining an independent bookshop specialising in graphic arts, a café and an art gallery. The atmosphere is hushed and cultivated, with walls that change with each exhibition and shelves lined with carefully chosen books. It's the kind of place that makes you want to stay, flick through a book between work sessions, and come back the following week.

Wi-Fi is available and the atmosphere lends itself to focused work. Recommended by Sortir à Paris among Wi-Fi cafés for working. Open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 7:30pm, and Sunday 2pm to 7pm. Closed Monday. An atypical place that will appeal to creative people and anyone who likes working surrounded by beautiful things.

Perfect for deep work afternoons in an artistic atmosphere.

La Permanence

Rue Marcadet, la Chapelle neighbourhood. La Permanence is a coworking space open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Yes, twenty-four hours a day. For shift workers, keyboard night owls, or those with a deadline to wrap up on a Sunday evening, this is probably the most flexible address in the entire 18th. The décor blends Scandinavian style with industrial touches, and access is very affordable.

Wi-Fi and power outlets are of course available. Recommended by Freebe among the top 10 coworking spaces in Paris. The place operates on a flexible subscription system that lets you come whenever you want, at whatever time you want. It's the kind of spot that saves you when everything else is closed.

The spot for impossible hours and last-minute emergencies.

La Main Noire

Rue Cavallotti, between Pigalle and place de Clichy. La Main Noire is an Australian café serving brunch, healthy food and home-made alternative drinks, all with respect for the environment. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a thoughtful décor that makes you want to settle in for the morning. Laptops are welcome and the Wi-Fi works well.

Recommended by Sortir à Paris among Wi-Fi cafés in Paris. Open every day, from 8:30am to 4:30pm on weekdays and 10am to 5pm on weekends (10am to 5pm on Mondays too). Hours are fairly short, so it's more of a morning and early afternoon spot.

The right choice for a healthy brunch followed by a work session in a zen setting.

Café Pimpin

Rue Ramey, in the Jules Joffrin neighbourhood. Café Pimpin is a small neighbourhood café with good Wi-Fi and good pastries. The place is simple, unpretentious, and that's exactly what gives it its charm. You sit down, order a coffee, and get work done in peace. The staff are welcoming and the local regulars come and go without disturbing you.

Recommended by Pachamama and Wicofi. Open Tuesday to Friday 8:30am to 6pm, and weekends and Monday 11am to 6pm. It's a neighbourhood spot — perfect if you live or work nearby and want a regular anchor point.

For quiet morning sessions in an authentic neighbourhood café.

Bonne Montmartre

Rue Labat, Jules Joffrin-Château Rouge neighbourhood. Bonne Montmartre is the first Norwegian specialty café in Paris. The atmosphere is cosy, the coffees are prepared with care, and the Norwegian pastries add a welcome touch of originality. Wi-Fi is available and the interior is pleasant for setting up your laptop.

Recommended by Sortir à Paris. Open Tuesday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm, and weekends 9:30am to 5pm. Closed Monday. A small, discreet spot worth seeking out for the quality of the coffee and the pleasantly transporting Scandinavian atmosphere.

The hidden gem for specialty coffee lovers who want to work in peace.

Café des Deux Moulins

Rue Lepic, right in Montmartre. Yes, this is the café from the film Amélie Poulain. But beyond its cinematic fame, it's also a genuine neighbourhood café with Wi-Fi. The opening hours are impressive: open every day from 7am to 2am (9am on weekends). If you're looking for a spot early in the morning or late at night in Montmartre, there's nothing better.

The place is lively, with foot traffic and ambient noise — this isn't the spot for silent deep work, but rather for tasks that don't require absolute quiet. The energy of the neighbourhood filters through the windows and gives you a little boost.

For working early in the morning or late at night in a legendary Montmartre setting.

Le Point Bar

Rue Championnet, in the Jules Joffrin neighbourhood. Le Point Bar is a bar with some of the lowest prices in Paris, frequented by independents and artists. Wi-Fi and power outlets are available, and the musical atmosphere is pleasant. It's an atypical spot for working — more suited to late afternoon or evening, given the opening hours (4:30pm to 2am every day).

Recommended by Instinct Voyageur among bars for working in northern Paris. The place looks like nothing you'll find in a classic remote work guide, and that's precisely what makes it interesting. Laptops are accepted, the atmosphere is creative, and the beer is cheap.

For end-of-day sessions in a creative bar atmosphere.
