Caen is the Norman city that has that little extra something: large enough to offer real options, compact enough to get everywhere on foot. Between William the Conqueror's castle looming over the centre, the pedestrian streets of le Vaugueux, and the marina giving it a faint seaside feel, the city has a quiet charm that reveals itself quickly when you spend time there. And for getting work done, Caen delivers. The student fabric (three universities, no less) has pushed cafés and work spaces to accommodate laptops and long sessions.

Freelancers settled near Saint-Pierre, remote employees looking to escape their Demi-Lune flat, students saturated by the university library, or passing travellers who need Wi-Fi and a decent coffee: Caen has solid options. Ouest-France even ran a feature on Caen cafés where you can work remotely, proof that the topic resonates with locals. We've done the rounds, tested the connections, and selected 10 spots worth your visit.

Arbuste café

Rue Montoir Poissonnerie, a stone's throw from the castle. Arbuste is a café that has truly understood remote workers. High and low tables, counter, terrace with a castle view, and a welcome that doesn't perform. The Wi-Fi is solid, the power outlets are there, and the large tables let you spread your things without bothering anyone. The atmosphere is warm, the décor thoughtful, and the coffee is excellent — one of the highest-rated cafés in Caen. Recommended by Ouest-France, Mapstr and Kava. Open Monday to Saturday 9:30am to 6pm (7pm on Saturdays). Closed Sunday. The terrace is a real bonus when the Norman weather cooperates. And the castle view as a backdrop is the kind of detail that makes a work session a little more pleasant.

Our favourite for full days in a setting with real personality.

Keys Co.

Avenue du Six Juin, right in the centre. Keys Co. is a space recommended for work with all the necessary equipment: Wi-Fi, power outlets, and a setup designed for productivity. The place is popular (which makes it one of the most reviewed in the city), and recommended by Ouest-France, Mapstr and Blog Note de Marie in their respective selections.

Watch the hours: closed Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday to Sunday, it's open 9am to 6pm. Weekend opening is a real asset if you work on Saturdays or Sundays. The location on avenue du Six Juin puts you a few minutes' walk from everything you need in the city centre.

A well-placed spot for weekend sessions and productive afternoons.

Moho

Quai Amiral Hamelin, facing the marina. Moho is a coworking space that gets things right: shared desks, meeting rooms, reliable Wi-Fi, power outlets everywhere, and a professional atmosphere that doesn't lack warmth. The space is well designed, the furniture is quality, and the location facing the Saint-Pierre basin gives a pleasant view when you look up from your screen. Recommended by Coworking-France, Blog Note de Marie and Passion Télétravail. Open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm (4:30pm on Fridays). Closed weekends. It's a properly structured coworking space, with packages whether you're coming for a day or settling in for several months. The port setting adds something that coworking spaces tucked in business parks lack.

The solid choice for those who want a professional coworking space with a view that beats white walls.

Le Mug

Rue Saint-Pierre, on Caen's main shopping street. Le Mug is a cosy café with sofas, comfortable armchairs, work tables, and a menu of homemade cakes and dishes that holds up. The atmosphere is calm, the Wi-Fi reliable, and the place is clearly welcoming for those who come with a laptop. You sink into an armchair and let the hours drift by. Recommended by Ouest-France in its feature on cafés for remote working in Caen. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30am to 6:30pm. Closed Sunday and Monday. If you're looking for a cosy setting for a quiet work session, Le Mug is a sure thing. The tea-room feel gives a soothing atmosphere you won't find in a classic coworking space.

Ideal for focused mornings when you want to feel at home (better).

Keys Coffee House

Rue Dumont d'Urville, in the city centre. Keys Coffee House is a café suited to work, with an atmosphere conducive to concentration. Wi-Fi is there, power outlets available, large tables let you spread out, and the atmosphere is calm without being cold. The menu offers enough to eat properly between sessions. Recommended by Ouest-France and Mapstr. Watch out: closed Monday and Tuesday (like Keys Co., as it happens). Wednesday to Sunday, open 9am to 6pm. Sunday opening is handy for end-of-week catch-up sessions.

A good café for working, with the bonus of being open on weekends.

Soeurs, café fleuri

Rue Guillaume le Conquérant, right in the centre. Soeurs is a cosy tea room with a floral identity that runs through the décor, drinks and cakes. The atmosphere is hushed, the quiet is genuine, and Wi-Fi and power outlets are available. The pastries are homemade, the drinks indulgent, and the setting is pretty enough that you'll want to take a photo before starting work. Recommended by Ouest-France and Blog Note de Marie. Open Wednesday to Saturday 10:30am to 6:30pm (noon on Tuesdays). Closed Sunday and Monday. The hours are a little restricted, but within the opening slots it's a choice address for those who appreciate a carefully considered setting.

Our favourite for peaceful afternoon work sessions in a floral and serene setting.

Gloriette

Rue Saint-Laurent, in the Vaugueux neighbourhood. Gloriette is a café with large tables, good coffee, homemade cakes, and a world cuisine menu that makes a pleasant change from classic options. The place is spacious, Wi-Fi available, and the atmosphere is settled enough that you can concentrate without effort. Recommended by Ouest-France. Open Tuesday to Saturday (8am on weekdays, 9am on Saturdays), closing at 7pm. Closed Sunday and Monday. The large tables make Gloriette a good spot if you need room to spread out plans, notebooks and your laptop.

The spot for work sessions where you need space and a good lunch at noon.

Monkey Work Studio

Place de la République, right in the centre. Monkey Work Studio is a well-located, well-equipped shared workspace: Wi-Fi, power outlets, large tables, and even a terrace. The space is functional, place de la République is easily accessible, and the setup is designed for work.

Recommended by Coworking-France and Passion Télétravail. Open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm (with a break from noon to 2pm). Closed weekends. If you're looking for a central and affordable coworking space, Monkey Work Studio is worth trying.

For those who want a coworking space right in the centre with everything they need.

Studio Pickup

Rue Michel Cabieu, a few minutes from the centre. Studio Pickup is a small warm and cosy spot (18 places only) with a sofa, armchairs, and homemade drinks and cakes. Wi-Fi is available, the atmosphere is calm, and the intimate format means you feel at home quickly. It's the kind of address you keep to yourself — a well-kept secret among Caen's remote workers. Recommended by Ouest-France. Open 7 days a week, 10am to 7pm. Yes, including Sunday. That's rare in Caen, and it changes everything if you need a spot at the weekend. The fact that there are only 18 places can be an advantage (it's quiet) or a disadvantage (it might be full).

The perfect hideout for quiet work in a tiny spot with character, even on Sundays.
